Father Ted was a Channel 4 sitcom which was largely filmed in the North Clare Area between 1996 and 1999.  A satirical presentation of rural Ireland and the influence of the Catholic church, it centred on the lives of three priests residing in an isolated parochial house on the fictional ‘Craggy Island’.  It has been hugely popular in Ireland and the UK in particular, and many of the locations can be seen in Kilfenora, Doolin, Ennistymon and elsewhere.  An annual ‘Ted Fest’ now takes place in Kilfenora to commemorate the series, and several companies provide tours to the various locations which were used for filming. It is even possible to arrange to have afternoon tea in the infamous parochial house.
